Greg O’Shea broke his nose and skull just weeks before heading into Love Island

Greg O’Shea has revealed he broke his nose and skull just weeks before heading into Love Island.

The Limerick native entered the hit dating show as a latecomer in 2019, and went on to win the season alongside Amber Gill, after just two weeks in the villa.

But as time clearly didn’t prove an issue, it seems appearance didn’t either, as he revealed he went into the show just after suffering major facial injuries.

He said: “Funny story my own teammate broke my nose and skull weeks before going into Love Island.”

Posting an image of his nose, the 26-year-old said he is conscious of it since, and wants to get it fixed in the future.

“People have told me not to get it fixed but I want to because I’m quite conscious of it and one of my nostrils is blocked.”

As Love Island has finally returned to our screens this week, Greg has been reminiscing on his time in the villa, as well as keeping an eye on the new islanders.

However, unimpressed by the series so far, the law student, who was in the same series as Maura Higgins called for the introduction of an Irish islander soon.

He said: “I’m trying to get into it but it has been a slow start.

“We have got to give it time though to understand their personalities and let the story develop.

“Also the villa needs some Irish in my opinion. Remember how much Maura brought to the show when she went in."

Reflecting on his own time in the Spanish villa as the series kicked off earlier in the week, he added: “Crazy that the last time the summer Love Island was on I was in there.

“So cool to see it back!

“The first islanders seem like a lovely bunch but hopefully an Irish person goes in at some stage to add a bit of craic!”

Having stepped away from the spotlight after his win in 2019, Greg has been reaching new heights elsewhere, completing his FE1 exams to further his law degree.

He also had a huge victory on the pitch last week, as he played a part in the Irish rugby team’s qualification for the Olympics.

Greg described it as the “stuff of dreams” as his Ireland Rugby 7s team booked their ticket to Tokyo after they shocked France to win a final qualifying tournament in Monaco last month.

He will now be part of the first Irish rugby team to ever compete at the Games.

Speaking after the match, he said: “I’m honestly speechless. This is the thing of dreams. This is the pinnacle of sport and we did it.

“I’m so proud of the boys. I’m not even supposed to be here. Initially I wasn’t even picked and now I’m standing on the pitch.”

He added: “I literally just got in the door from Monaco and it still hasn’t sunk in. I am over the moon about what happened at the weekend, I’m so proud of the boys and I can’t believe we did it.

“Qualified for the Olympics, like what? That is so bizarre.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us and sent messages. The support means everything and makes it so much sweater.”

“Unreal, we are going to the Olympics.”
