Australia's most famous golfer and golf course developer, Greg Norman, has fixed his eye on what he considers to be an "amazing parcel of land" in Hawks Nest.
Norman's design and construction development arm, Greg Norman Golf Course Designs, indicated interest in the development of a 1.4 hectare of land adjacent to the Hawks Nest Golf Club.
The company has been in talks with property owners Core Leric since March regarding the potential to transform the property into a world class golf residence.
A statement by the parties quoted Norman as saying he was "impressed with this unique opportunity to capture what the residential market needs today as living outside the city expands."
He also admired the project's "liaison with the indigenous community " and observes that "benefits will certainly be positive for the overall area and township".
A Core Leric spokesman said the partnership was committed to working with all relevant stakeholders through the development application process to produce an integrated final result that was both beautiful and practical.
"In order to address specific local concerns, it should be understood that the land is only 1.4 hectares in size and already suitably zoned at medium density R3,which is in common with neighbouring and numerous exiting properties in Hawks Nest," the spokesman said.
"Further, the development will not be visible from the beach and it will encourage a sense of healthy active living, with ample green space that is at one with the surrounding environment."
Norman is no stranger to the Hunter's golf courses.
He previously designed the 18-hole course at The Vintage Golf Club at Rothbury in the early 2000s.
The resort boasts a $5 million clubhouse, 44 Grand Mecure apartments and the Chateaux Elan hotel.
The resort was developed by American entrepreneur Don Panoz and Australian business manager John Stevens.
Norman also designed the secluded 18-hole Ellerston golf course on the Upper Hunter estate of former businessman Kerry Packer.
The course is consistently ranked among the best golf courses in the world.
