Greg Leigh to seal Aberdeen return as Derek McInnes looks to boost defensive options

Aberdeen are set to re-sign Greig Leigh on a short-term deal as Derek McInnes looks to bolster his squad before the end of the transfer window.

The Englishman is ready to pen a deal at Pittodrie, having spent last season on loan in the Granite City.

The 26-year-old paved the way for the move at the weekend after he terminated his contract with NAC Breda.

Aberdeen had an option to buy the former Manchester City graduate at the end of last season but opted not to take it up due to the COVID-19 cash crisis.

The Dons had agreed a fee with the Dutch side but will now pick him up for nothing.

McInnes is looking to close the deal over the next 24 hours, although it can be finalised after the close of the window because Leigh became a free agent while the window is still open.

The full-back impressed at Aberdeen, but saw his loan spell disrupted by a leg break.

McInnes has decided to move to strengthen his defensive options after he sold Scott McKenna to Nottingham Forest for £3 million.
