Greg Leigh seals Aberdeen loan as Derek McInnes moves for NAC Breda left-back

Aberdeen have signed defender Greg Leigh on-loan from NAC Breda.

The left-back will spend the season at Pittodrie and the club have an option to buy next summer.

The 24-year-old began his career at Manchester City and has since had spells at Bradford and Bury before heading to the Netherlands in 2018.

Leigh has flown out to Cork to link up with Derek McInnes' squad at their pre-season training camp.

And the Dons boss has revealed the club almost snared Leigh back in January before eventually bringing back Max Lowe on a second loan deal from Derby County.

McInnes was keen to broker a third Aberdeen stint for Lowe but that now looks unlikely with the addition of another left-sided full-back.

“We’ve been aware of Greg for a while and in January, when it looked as though Max was staying at Derby, he was someone we were quite far down the road with," McInnes said.

“He’s versatile, gives us a bit of athleticism, has decent experience for someone with his best years ahead of him and he sees Aberdeen as the right move at this stage.

“There were a number of clubs in England keen to take Greg but I felt he bought into what we’re trying to do early on in our conversations.”

Aberdeen have already agreed deals for Ryan Hedges, Ash Taylor, Craig Bryson and Jon Gallagher this summer.

Youngsters Luc Bollan and Michael Ruth have also signed up for the new season.
