Greg leaves Love Island villa for tragic reason but he will be back on the show this week

Love Island bosses have confirmed that Greg O'Shea left the villa earlier this week for a very sad reason.

Irish rugby player Greg , who is currently coupled up with Gateshead girl Amber Gill in the run up to this year's final, has only been in the villa for a week but flew home from Majorca on Monday following the death of his nan.

Greg flew home to Dublin to be with his family and they have praised Love Island producers for allowing him leave.

Confirming that Greg had come home, dad Niall told Irish radio station Limerick Live 95 "Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well."

In a statement they told how Greg's nan Monica Ho, from Limerick "passed away peacefully on July 19 in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family."

Giving about Greg's absence from the villa to Chronicle Live, a Love Island spokesperson said "Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral. "Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa.

Love Island continues at 9pm on Tuesday on ITV2
