Greg Kiltie says Kilmarnock will do all they can do bag first league win against Hamilton

Greg Kiltie insists Kilmarnock will do all they can to notch their first league win of the season this weekend.

The Rugby Park forward came off the bench as they lost to Rangers on Sunday, but his impressive performance had heads turning as the Killie faithful were loving his creative spark.

And now he is hoping the side can kick on and pick up three points as they head to Hamilton on Saturday.

And he reckons that a big away support could be key.

He told the Kilmarnock Standard: “Obviously we want that first win in the league, it would be nice if we could get it on Saturday.

“The fans are always brilliant at Hamilton, I don’t expect that they will be any different this weekend.

“That will be key during the game.”

The match marks the first of a crucial double-header with the Lanarkshire side, as they welcome Hamilton to Rugby Park in the Betfred Cup next Saturday.

Kiltie said: “It’s always nice to go on a cup run, but we will take the first game as it comes of course, but we will then move on to the cup game.

“Obviously we don’t want to get put out at the first hurdle, so we will do all we can.”

Kiltie was on loan to Morton for the second part of last season, where he scored six goals in 13 starts.

But the most important thing for him was to get game time, as his career had hit the buffers after long-term injuries.

He said: “The loan spell at Morton was good, I was really pleased with my time there.

“It helped me a lot, I got a good amount of games towards the end of the season.

“It helped give me my confidence and everything back, it was also good to get into the swing of playing games again rather than just training.

“A lot of people still mention my injuries, but that was a while ago.

“I was always there even though I wasn’t playing, I was always training and I think I just had to play some games to prove to people what I could do, rather than just hoping I got a chance.”

He was delighted to get back into the Killie jersey on Saturday, and hopes he can kick on and push for a starting place.

He said: “It was good just to get back and get involved in first-team action.

“I have been biding my time to get involved, and Sunday’s performance coming off the bench has done me no harm.”

●Tickets for the Hamilton game are priced at £22 and £12 (concessions) and are available in the Killie Shop now.
