Greg James 'desperate' to break free from escape room ahead of the BRITs - but his wife isn't helping

Greg James has woken up to his second day in the Radio 1 escape room after spending the night locked in.

The Breakfast Show host was bundled into the room after the “politest kidnapping ever” on Monday morning – but 24 hours later he’s still trying to crack the clues to set himself free.

“I’m up. I barely slept and when I did, I dreamt of nothing else,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

“I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to turn my bedroom into a radio studio tbh. My parents were expecting that as a 15th birthday request #R1EscapeRoom.”

James' wife Bella Mackie phoned in and was asked if she has any clues, to which she replied: “Me? Why would I have any clues? I'm not even watching it.”

She continued: “I was fine I went out and didn't think about it. You do sound like you've crossed over into another place now. My mum is worried about you. I'm not worried about you.”

Cracking the code: Greg James works on a hangman (Radio 1)

James needs a six-digit number to unlock the door and is calling on listeners to help crack the code which has a million potential combinations. Jack Whitehall and Little Mix have also attempted to help him escape.

He has vowed to break free before 10am this morning, but if he doesn’t he could face missing the BRIT Awards tomorrow night which he was supposed to be attending with a listener whose boyfriend broke up with her the day before Valentine’s Day.

“I want to get this done before Clara Amfo,” he said. “I’ve had enough disruption and I want everyone to return to their lives. I'm desperate. I'm at the end of my tether. Somebody please help.”

James has so far completed one code – a game of hangman which produced the names of six artists who all have stars in the titles of their songs.

He has yet to complete a jigsaw puzzle and fill in a baffling grid, which one listener pointed out relates to notes on a piano. He was also played a short clip from Listen to the Music by The Doobie Brothers, which was released in 1972. A clock in the room has been stuck on 10:56 which could also be related to the six-digit code.

James is sure there is a link between Ricky Hatton, Postman Pat and the phrase “Shake, rattle and roll” which he believes will reveal the code.
