Greg James' cheeky response to concern he's still missing from Radio 1 Breakfast Show

Greg James had a fantastic response to a story questioning why he hadn't been appearing on his own Radio 1 Breakfast Show this week.

The broadcaster has been enjoying his Christmas break but fans of his weekday show have expressed concern he's not returned to the airways in the new year.

Greg took to Instagram to film a hilarious clip explaining that he was too busy being the 'Pied Piper of cheese' to be at work.

Filming himself over a screenshot of the story, Greg mimicked the headline: "'Where is Greg James and why is he not on radio 1 today?'"

He explained: "Wonder what's going on there? We're stirring everything up. Why don't you just relax yourselves? You fusspots, I'm on holiday.

"I'll tell you why I'm not on radio 1 because I'm busy being the pied piper of cheese."

The scene then cut to Greg sitting on his couch badly playing a recorder while a plate of cheese sat on his knees.

His dog was waiting patiently in hopes of enjoying a snack.

The 36-year-old then made the plate 'magically' float towards the dog as he continued playing the instrument.

Greg took over the hosting slot of the BBC radio show back in 2018 after Nick Grimshaw quit.

After describing the job as a 'dream come true', Greg has since admitted that he considered whether he should give up the coveted Breakfast show spot at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

In a very honest interview with The Independent, Greg explained why he almost threw in the towel.

"I had a conversation with my boss and I was just like 'I can’t do it anymore'," he said. "I can’t pretend to be happy when I’m sad and everyone else is sad."

He didn't have a plan when it came to a new job, but he eventually decided to stay.

"But the team and I were just like, 'How do we keep this going while we’re worrying about all the other things in our lives?'," he added.

Meanwhile, Zoe Ball has also been missing from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. She said she will be returning after getting her PCR test results.

The 51-year old presenter said that she had her "fingers crossed" that the test will be negative so she can return to the show.

Her slot has been covered by TV presenter Nicki Chapman since she's been awaiting her results.

Looking rosy-cheeked as she appeared to be on a treadmill she wished her 629,000 followers a "Happy New Year," and added: "Can't see below the waistline — so tubby."

She said: "Fingers crossed back to Radio 2 Breakfast Show tomorrow 6.30 if my PCR test is all clear."
