Greg Gaines excited to work with Aaron Donald: ‘Going to be amazing’

In the fourth round of the draft on Saturday, the Los Angeles Rams found Ndamukong Suh’s likely replacement. They selected Washington defensive tackle Greg Gaines with the 134th overall pick, moving up to select the Pac-12 product.

He fills a void on the interior that’s almost certain to be left by Suh, who’s still a free agent. Gaines spent four years at Washington, starting every game for the Huskies. Although he doesn’t resemble Aaron Donald in size or ability, he’s spent a lot of time studying the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

On a conference call with reporters, Gaines said he’s closely watched Donald’s technique and is looking forward to working with No. 99.

Gaines is 6-foot-1, 312 pounds and has a knack for clogging running lanes up the middle. He’s a great anchor in the middle of the defensive line, which should help free things up for Donald and Michael Brockers.

He doesn’t have to be a dominant pass rusher from the nose, but if he can add a couple of sacks each season, it’ll be a bonus. His main task will be stopping the run and eating up blocks.
