Greg Docherty in Rangers transfer mystery as League One side reveal Steven Gerrard contact

Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty went against the advice of Steven Gerrard to turn down a loan move to Peterborough - according to director Barry Fry.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town but returned to Ibrox in the summer.

The former Hamilton Academical man hasn't featured for the first team since August though and looks certain to leave on loan in January.

However, it appears that the fringe player hasn't heeded the advice of his manager when selecting his next destination.

Director of football Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph : "Rangers boss Steven Gerrard thought we would be an ideal move for Greg but the player says he has a Championship club to go to.

"We have identified a couple of other targets which we will go for, although there is some hesitation as we don’t want to spoil what is a fantastic team spirit.

“One is a Championship player who could play as a number 10, but I don’t think anything will happen until we’ve played Burnley in the FA Cup.”

Docherty joined Rangers from Hamilton in 2018 and signed a four-year contract.

He has only made 11 Premiership appearances since though and was loaned out for 2018-19, winning Shrewsbury's Player of the Year award.
