Greetings cards giant Clintons deny rumours they are set to ditch Ayr

A retail giant has denied rumours they are set to ditch Ayr.

Clinton Cards are hoping to stay put and are in talks with their landlord over continuing their lease at their High Street store.

Social media rumours had surfaced this week after 'To Let' signs were spotted above the shop.

Fears were growing that the popular UK greetings cards and gifts chain was set to move out Ayr's main thoroughfare.

Residents were worried another retail giant would move out after major closures across the town throughout the pandemic.

But card bosses say they intend to remain trading in the town and are negotiating with landlords to strike a new deal.

And they have today quashed social media rumours that the 'To Let' signs could be the end of their time in Ayr.

A spokesperson for Clintons told Ayrshire Live : "We regularly review the leases in our store portfolio. We’ve traded in the town of Ayr for a number of years and would very much like to continue to do so.

"We’re working hard to secure a deal which would enable us to do so and are in discussions with our landlords.”
