Greenwich stabbing: Teenager found stabbed to death outside birthday party on London estate

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them as soon as possible ( PA )

A teenager was stabbed to death outside a party on a south east London estate, police said as they launched a murder investigation into the killing.

The 18-year-old was discovered “lying dead on the floor” by a resident who was attending her grandson’s birthday party at the flat in Greenwich.

The woman said her granddaughter attempted to resuscitate the man by giving him CPR “but she couldn’t bring him back”.

Emergency services attended the scene but the man was pronounced dead shortly after 10oclock.

The woman, who discovered the victim, said her granddaughter has been left traumatised by the incident.

“She was crying last night – she was so upset,” she said.

Police said the teenager was seen arguing with three men on mopeds before the attack.

Detective chief inspector Richard Leonard said: “We know that several people reported seeing the victim in a confrontation with three other males on mopeds before an altercation in which he sustained his injuries. The males then rode away from the scene.”

Other residents reported that they heard screaming and shouting prior to the police’s arrival.

One, who did not wish to be named, said: “I heard some screaming and shouting and thought I heard some dogs barking, but basically that is what I hear every single day.”

The victim has not yet been identified and a post-mortem examination is expected to be held at Greenwich Public Mortuary on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police has launched more than 80 murder investigations this year, while so far in London alone there have been more than 20 youth murders.
