Greenrigg Nursery make donation to Australian bush fire relief effort

Children at Greenrigg Nursery have become koala protectors.

Before lockdown, the children decided to help the cause when they heard about the bush fires in Australia and began discussing some of the animals that might be affected.

The school’s pupil support worker mentioned that WWF were doing fundraising for the koalas and the children then drew some fantastic pictures of the fires and the koalas which were displayed in the parents area.

A school spokesperson said: “We looked at where we live and where the koalas live on the globe. The children were very good at gathering all of the information they had been learning and sharing that with their parents.

“A koala sat in our parents area holding a tub and parents were asked to make a small donation.

“We are delighted to say that the children raised the fantastic amount of £50 which has been forwarded to the WWF.

“The nursery was sent a certificate and we will receive regular updates on how our donation is helping in Australia. The children are going to receive individual certificates to take home.”
