Greenpeace UK protesters try to block Boris Johnson's car by forming human chain as he travelled to meet the Queen

Climate protesters attempted to stop Boris Johnson's motorcade as it headed towards Buckingham Palace by forming a human chain across the Mall.

Greenpeace UK activists dressed in red t-shirts attempted to interrupt the convoy as the incoming Prime Minister was on his way for an audience with the Queen.

Mr Johnson's vehicle appeared to stop briefly as it met the protest, before continuing to the palace.

Police officers could be seen moving the protesters away to allow Mr Johnson's convoy to pass.

Another group brandished a poster as the cars passed.

Greenpeace claimed the protest on the Mall, tweeting: "BREAKING: we just tried to hand the incoming PM a crucial letter - it contains the answers to tackling the Climate Emergency.

"But will he *act*?"
