Greenock house fire attempted murder accused appears in court

A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder after a house was allegedly set on fire in Greenock.

The incident took place in Union Street on Monday September 14.

Craig MacFarlane, from Paisley, Renfrewshire, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Friday afternoon.

The 25-year-old has been charged with attempted murder and wilful fireraising.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody

McFarlane is expected to appear in court in the next eight days.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a spate of fire bomb attacks in the town.

Detective Superintendent Gerry McBride of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division said: “This is a significant development in our investigation into recent fire-raisings in the area and a multi-agency effort to find those responsible remains ongoing.
