Greenock drive-by terror traumatises kids living at scene of botched gangland hit

Children living at the scene of a botched drive-by shooting have been left so terrified by the gun drama they’re now afraid to leave their homes.

A gunman opened fire on fake fag king Kamaran Khader as he walked in his home town of Greenock on Tuesday evening.

The 37-year-old cigarette smuggler, who was caged over the £28million crime ring he headed, managed to jump behind a parked car to escape the murder bid.

The gunman, who was in a white Hyundai Tucson, hit a red Kia Sportage with the bullet meant for Khader. The Kia was later taken away by police for testing.

The thug driving the Hyundai sped off towards Greenock town centre, and it was later found burnt out at a nearby reservoir.

Now children who live in the residential street where Khader was targeted, which is just yards from a playpark, are said to be scared to leave their homes.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “There are a good few children who live in the street and they’re shaken up by it.

“They’re worried the gunman will come back. We have tried to explain that there’s no risk to them as it was a targeted attack but they’re petrified it could happen again.

“The fact two guns, unconnected to the shooting, have been found elsewhere in Greenock makes it worse. The sooner the police catch the shooter, and recover the gun used in the drive-by, the better.”

Last night, police said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.

Khader and six accomplices, including Glaswegian Sirwan Hassan, were jailed for a total of 26 years in 2014 after an HMRC swoop found 14,480,000 cigarettes and £84,400 in cash.
