Greenock dad who stabbed his son found dead in prison

A dad jailed for stabbing his son in the stomach in a row over a book has died in prison.

Gary Roe, 50, was jailed for six years in October last year after admitting assaulting his son, Declan, 20, to the danger of his life.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed Roe died on November 16 while serving his sentence at Low Moss prison, near Glasgow .

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for the SPS said the Procurator Fiscal had been informed.

The High Court in Glasgow heard Roe, of Greenock , stabbed his son in January last year in front of children aged 14 and five. He claimed it was an accident.

The court also heard that Declan had gone to his dad’s home to confront him about ripping up a book belonging to his sister.

Roe was originally charged with attempting to murder Declan but his plea of guilty to the lesser charge was accepted.

Judge Lady Rae told Roe that he could have killed his son and had showed “no expression of remorse”.
