Objectors to a £15 million leisure development near Perth are stepping up their campaign.
‘Save Murrayshall Greenbelt’ banners have been commissioned and politicians of all political hues are being lobbied by local residents.
Murrayshall Country House Hotel and Golf Course – owned by Stellar Asset Management - wants to create 50 new bedrooms, a spa and leisure facility, golf academy, 40 lodges, glamping pods and hillside tree houses.
But residents in and around Scone fear the countryside is under threat from controversial proposals for 50-plus up-market homes on the estate.
Dozens of objections have already been received by Perth and Kinross planners, with the deadline for responses looming on Friday.
“The original plans have changed significantly at a time when the focus of most people has been on the pandemic and keeping their family and friends safe,” said the protest group spokesman.
“We aren’t opposed to the plans to enhance the hotel experience and make it a destination resort.
“But this shouldn’t be at the expense of valued greenbelt and the amenity of locals and the many visitors who enjoy the natural environment and wildlife in an area of outstanding beauty.
“We welcome major investment in the hotel and golf courses at Murrayshall – and the jobs that will bring.
“But, alarmingly, the greenbelt is under threat from what adds up to a major housing development in the hotel grounds.
“It would have a devastating impact if the council departed from its long-standing policy of protecting the countryside between Perth and Scone.”
Murrayshall Country House Hotel general manager Gary Silcock told the PA last week the establishment’s owners are simply trying to match customer expectations of what a modern four-star hotel should offer by adding new accommodation and extra leisure pursuits.
