Green list update revealing countries being added expected to be June 7

The 'Green List' of destinations where Brits can travel without going into quarantine is expected to be updated on June 7, Number 10 has confirmed.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman said it would be updated every three weeks to "give a level of certainty" to holidaymakers and the travel sector, and that this would take effect from May 17, the day the list comes into force.

That means the first update of the list should be expected on June 7.

It's been reported major destinations major tourist destinations including France, Spain and Greece are unlikely to feature on the government's green list when it's reviewed.

The British Virgin Islands and a raft of Caribbean countries are said to be the likely few to be among the small number of more easily accessible destinations in a month's time.

Travel will operate under the system with countries placed on green, amber or red lists that determine the level of quarantine and PCR test requirements when you're back in the UK.

Just 12 countries were placed on the green list when it was unveiled by Grant Shapps last Friday.

The new green list is expected to be decided in the week leading up to June 7, when the second batch of green holiday destinations will be revealed.

The paper reports that Spain, Greece, Italy and France are all unlikely to feature.

A third updated list is likely to be revealed in time for a review of the Government’s foreign travel policy on June 28.

Currently, non-essential foreign travel is legally banned but this is due to be lifted from May 17, allowing for holidays abroad once again.

Regardless of the destination, anyone returning from abroad will be required to take a pre-departure test and undertake PCR testing when back.

Countries and territories will be placed on green, amber or red lists, each of which have their own unique requirements around testing and quarantine.

There will initially be 12 on the green list - Portugal including the Azores and Madeira; Australia; New Zealand; Singapore; Brunei; Iceland; Faroe Islands; Gibraltar; Falkland Islands; and Israel.
