Green List Ireland update as one new country added for Irish tourists

One new country was added to the new Green List that comes into effect today.

The microstate of Liechtenstein was the only new addition in the updated list.

However the tiny German-speaking country doesn't even have an airport.

Germany, Iceland, Poland and Lithuania were all removed in the latest version of the list due to an increasing level of coronavirus cases there.

Earlier this month the Government agreed that only countries with an incidence of less than 25 cases per 100,000 people would be allowed on the list.

All statistics are taken from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The full Green List is now as follows:

  • Cyprus
  • Finland
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein

There will be a fresh update to the list on Thursday, with any changes coming into effect the following Monday.

Ireland is soon set to sign up to the European Commission's Europe-wide travel guidance, which could potentially see far more countries open up for Irish tourists.

The traffic light system will see unrestricted travel allowed to "Green" countries with an incidence of under 25, and potentially also to "amber" countries with an incidence of 25 to 50.

The exact measures that will be in place under the new system are expected to be agreed at a meeting on October 13.

Until then, the Government is only advising non-essential travel to countries on the Green List. Anyone returning from these areas will not have to adhere to the mandatory 14-day quarantien period.
