Green light for school's expansion in Ayr

The school in Abbot’s Way, Ayr, is part of a £113m shake-up of educational facilities in South Ayrshire.

The plans at Doonfoot involve extending and a part refurbishment to form a new hall with changing and toilet facilities and storage areas.

The school’s present roll is 330, plus 48 children at nursery, but that number will increase to accommodate new housing developments nearby.

A council said: “We’re investing more than £113 million capital funding in our schools and early years facilities over the next decade to ensure they provide the best possible places for our children and young people to learn and grow.

“This includes funding to extend Doonfoot Primary to accommodate an increase in the school roll as a result of new housing developments.

“The extension to the school will enhance the facilities available with a bigger and better gym/dining/assembly hall, which will benefit the young people, staff, parents/carers and the local community alike. The works will improve the insulation, natural ventilation and lighting within the school to make it more environmentally friendly and sustainable, which supports the council’s commitment to carbon reduction.

“Overall, this is a really exciting project that will transform Doonfoot Primary and ensure it provides a quality learning environment for generations to come.”
