Green light for merger of Birmingham office blocks

Planners in Birmingham have given the green light to a major overhaul of a city office block which will combine two addresses into one.

The multimillion-pound transformation of 10 Brindleyplace will see a complete replacement of its façades, a new double-height reception accessed from both Oozells Square and Broad Street, open-plan office floors and other amenity facilities.

The project will also bring both 8 and 10 Brindleyplace together to form one building and create 175,000 sq ft of grade A office space, a café, fitness studio and bouldering wall, storage for 100 bicycles, electric vehicle charging points and two communal roof terraces.

Thamesis Asset Management is leading the project on behalf of landlord CBRE Global Investors.

Steve Townsend, associate director at Associated Architects which designed the scheme, said: "The design of 10 Brindleyplace places the building users at the heart, with customer experience and wellbeing central to the design approach.

"The building will have a bold new brand and identity which is carried through all aspects of the interior styling.

"The striking new reception area will be the centrepiece of the new building, linked with a range of associated occupier facilities across the whole of the ground floor space."

The redevelopment is being project managed by Workman and will commence in the autumn and be completed in early 2022.

CBRE and Savills are acting as joint property agencies for the office space.
