An aged care development proposed for an existing seniors living complex in Edgeworth has been given a green light to proceed by the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel.
The project, which was recommended for approval by Lake Macquarie City Council, was assessed at a meeting in Speers Point on Wednesday afternoon.
It received unanimous support from the four-person panel.
The facility will be located within the existing seniors living complex, Hawkins Masonic Village, on Northville Drive in Edgeworth.
The $40 million development, proposed by Planix Projects in conjunction with site owner Royal Freemasons' Benevolent Institution, includes 150 care beds in a three-storey building and associated facilities.
A community hub will incorporate a cafe, hair salon, hall, alied-health rooms, and laundry, kitchen and administration facilities.

An existing village hall, four independent-living dwellings, a shed and car park will be demolished to make way for the development.
The three-storey building's height of 12.75 metres exceeds the area's 8.5-metre limit, but a variation to the development standard was deemed appropriate.
The panel took less than half an hour to approve the project, which received no objections from the public.
Councillor Jason Pauling was due to be council's representative at the meeting, but did not take part due to a minor conflict of interest.
