Green Flag joy for the Kilmarnock primary school putting environment first

They are putting the planet first at Kilmarnock's Onthank Primary School.

And they can fly the flag to prove it.

The Meiklewood Road school has received its fifth Eco-Schools Scotland Green Flag.

Over the past two years pupils and staff have demonstrated their passion and commitment to the environment and have been working on their chosen eco topics of litter, transport and waste minimisation.

Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley MSP Willie Coffey said: “I am really proud of the entire school community for the tremendous efforts that they have put in to show how much they care for their environment.

“These pupils are inspiring the whole community to take a different approach to litter, waste management and sustainable transport.

“And I would like to thank everyone involved for their inspirational approach to what is a great example of how a school community can work positively towards achieving environmental change, and changing attitudes of people in their community.”
