A green-fingered Stonehouse woman has scooped fa top prize in Dobbies Garden Centre's first-ever ‘not your average gardener’ awards.
Judged by gardener, journalist and Dobbies’ podcast host, Louise Midgley, and Dobbies’ director, Marcus Eyles, the competition aims to find the best and most dedicated gardeners from Scotland and beyond.
And having uncovered a gardening star in Ella Gibson, the pair awarded her the 'best mini garden makeover' crown and a giftcard for £250 to spend on gardening plants and tools in the Sandyholm store - as well as a consultation with one of the judges.
Ella’s bijou triangular garden measures 17 x 10 ft, and boasts a dwarf crab apple tree, a bright hydrangea bush and a welcoming space for birds to bath and feed. The tranquil and colourful garden is a perfect spot for her to enjoy.
Judge Louise told Lanarkshire Live : "Small spaces are often the most difficult to design and I’m thoroughly impressed with how Ella has transformed her small space without over cluttering the area.
"My favourite part of this tiny garden is the bird feeder and bird bath, in addition to the carefully chosen mix of plants which will be appreciated by a wide diversity of wildlife throughout the year.
"Ella’s use of a dwarf crab apple tree is a great choice as it has flowers, berries and autumnal foliage, making for a very attractive focal point."
Marcus said Ella's hard work and passion for gardening "hadn't gone unnoticed" and hoped she enjoyed her prize and title.
