Green fingered group encourages local people to get growing

A group of green-fingered volunteers have been helping to get local people to get growing during lockdown.

Winchburgh Community Growing Group has been busy supplying trees for people to adopt and free seeds for the community to grow.

John West, co-founder of the group exlained: “The seeds were in stock of the group for our annual planting but due to Covid-19 we thought the residents will have more benefits from the seeds if they plant them at home due to current circumstances.

“We bought soil from Narrowboat Farm and will offer to distribute across the ones willing to plant food at home or it can be collected at set individual times.

“Our criteria was any resident in the village willing to take on the task of planting food at home, because it is healthier and better for us but also an activity which can be enjoyed as a family during lockdown.

“We have 420 heritage trees in total and many people have been interested in adopting the trees and they will also be able to name it and plant it in Auldcathie park once it’s back in construction.
