Green Day postpone Glasgow gig with Fall Out Boy this summer

Green Day have announced that their huge gig in Bellahouston Park this year has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

The band were set to play Bellahouston Park on June 24 this year alongside Fall Out Boy and Weezer as part of their The Hella Mega Tour.

But the guys were gutted to announce that many of their dates have been postponed. In a statement they said: "There’s nothing that makes our bands happier than playing shows, and maybe no other tour that we’ve all been this excited for, but due to the current health crisis, we’re having to postpone a number of our European shows.

"We’re just as disappointed as you are, but the safety of our fans, staff and touring crew is our top priority. We’re working hard to finalize dates for the rescheduled shows next summer, so hold on to those tickets. Keep rocking…safely…at home."

And this isn't the first time that Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool have had to cancel on their Scottish fans.

Green Day were left red-faced in 2017 when another promoter, PCL Presents pulled the plug on their July 2017 gig which was also at Bellahouston Park, minutes before the gates were due to open.

They claimed bad weather was to blame – but the band told fans they would have played if it was “raining sideways”.

They signed off a statement on their blog: “We love you Scotland, we love the city of Glasgow and it goes without saying that WE WILL BE BACK!”

It left fans and the band devastated - especially as the band had last played in Scotland was in Glasgow at the SECC in June 2010.

The Glasgow gig was set to be their first open-air gig in Scotland since they headlined the Sunday night at T in the Park in 2005.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album 39/Smooth.
