Green City Market BBQ brings 80-plus restaurants to Lincoln Park on Thursday

July 13--Green City Market, the twice-a-week farmers market in Lincoln Park and, now, Fulton Market (two sites, each once a week), couldn't exist without the money raised at its annual barbecue. The event, now in its 15th year, is the largest fundraiser for the market and its free community programs. It's also your chance to taste dishes from chefs on the vanguard of Chicago gastronomy.

This year's barbecue, to be held July 16 in Lincoln Park, will feature bites from more than 80 local restaurants, including Frontera Grill, GT Fish and Oyster, North Pond, Sepia, Big Jones, The Radler and Vie. Restaurants making their first appearance at the barbecue this year include Bohemian House, Bottlefork, Formento's, River Roast, Salero and The Duck Inn. Pretty impressive pedigree.

At $125, this is a pricey event to be sure, but the price tag is all-inclusive. Sips from local mixologists, distillers and craft brewers are included, as well.

Think of the outdoor barbecue as a radio pledge drive. Proceeds, organizers say, help defray operational costs of running the outdoor market "while keeping its farm fees as low as possible." Tickets are available online here or at the gate. For an extra $125, VIP guests can get a one-hour headstart at 4:30 p.m.; general-admission ticket holders enter at 5:30 p.m.

As for the weather forecast this Thursday? Tom Skilling says to expect a high of 82 degrees, with spotty showers midday and the chance of thunderstorms increasing at night.
