The Green Carpet Fashion Awards (GCFA) recently took place, drawing together a diverse group of industry leaders, activists, and Indigenous representatives to honor individuals making significant contributions to societal transformation. The event highlighted the importance of an intersectional approach to drive meaningful change.

This year's co-chairs included prominent figures such as Cate Blanchett, Helen Hunt, Julianne Moore, and Zendaya. Notably, designer Donatella Versace was recognized with the GCFA Game Changer award for her activism in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. In her acceptance speech, Versace emphasized the importance of supporting queer and transgender communities, particularly in regions where such rights are restricted.

Several other honorees were acknowledged for their impactful work in various fields. UN Secretary-General António Guterres received The Sage award for his dedication to environmental and social justice. Former president of Ireland, Mary Robinson, was honored with The Healer award for her advocacy for gender equality.

Additionally, Kalpona Atker, founder of the Bangladesh Centre for Worker Solidarity, was named The Messenger for her efforts in improving conditions for garment workers. Greenland environmentalist Angaangaq Angakkorsuaq received The Visionary award for raising awareness about environmental issues.

Renowned singer John Legend was recognized as The Rebel for his social justice initiatives, while Ugandan presidential candidate Bobi Wine and his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi were awarded The Futurist title for their fight against social inequality and ecological collapse.

Reflecting on the event, GCFA founder Livia Firth emphasized the transformative nature of the awards, highlighting the role of fashion and entertainment as platforms for driving positive change. Firth underscored the importance of collective action in addressing pressing global challenges, such as climate change and social inequality.

The Green Carpet Fashion Awards serve as a testament to the power of activism, leadership, and collaboration in creating a more equitable and sustainable world.
