Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Discusses Team's Future Plans

The Green Bay Packers, under the leadership of general manager Brian Gutekunst, are gearing up for the 2024 NFL season. Despite a promising run in the playoffs last year, the team is focused on making strategic decisions to strengthen their roster and make a deeper postseason push.

One key decision looming for the Packers is the potential release of left tackle David Bakhtiari. With a significant salary cap hit, the team is carefully evaluating their options before the new league year begins in March.

Fortunately, the NFL announced a higher-than-expected salary cap for 2024, providing the Packers with more flexibility in their financial planning. This increased cap space will allow them to be active in free agency and address areas of need on the roster.

Another area of focus for the Packers is their kicking game. After some struggles last season, the team is looking to improve their kicking performance and create healthy competition within the special teams unit.

Looking ahead to the upcoming NFL Draft, the Packers have the 25th pick in the first round and five selections in the first three rounds. While Gutekunst is known for making moves on draft day, he expressed caution about trading up into the top-10 due to the high cost associated with such moves.

Despite the impending retirement of President and CEO Mark Murphy in 2025, Gutekunst has made it clear that he is focused on his current role as general manager and not interested in pursuing the top executive position.

With a young and talented core of players, the Packers are optimistic about their chances of contending for a Super Bowl in the near future. Gutekunst believes in the potential of the team and emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement and peak performance during critical moments in the season.

As the Packers prepare for the 2024 season, they are committed to building on their recent successes and positioning themselves as strong contenders in the competitive landscape of the NFL.
