Green Bay Packers continue incredible NFL record in London game vs New York Giants

The Green Bay Packers kept a 60-year NFL record going on Sunday as they faced off against the New York Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Packers were the last team from the NFL to play a game abroad, but there's a very obvious reason for that. The Packers have an incredible record of selling out every single home game at Lambeau Field since 1960, and kept that streak alive on Sunday, as they were listed as the home side.

Sunday's game at the home of the Premier League side was, like all London games, played in front of a capacity ground, with tickets having sold out almost instantly.

The Packers are widely regarded as one of the most supported teams in world sports, with their season ticket waiting list currently standing at 30 years. An estimated 115,000 fans are currently on the waiting list.

While most games played in England are attended by fans from a wide variety of fans, Sunday's was different. Tens of thousands of Packers fans packed into the stands at Tottenham to create a home field environment.

Speaking earlier in the week, quarterback Aaron Rodgers explained the global appeal the franchise has. He said: "We have fans in Germany, Italy, France – all across there.

"I was in Europe this offseason, in Switzerland, and there were people excited. I met local football team guys and the coach there, was super juiced and loving the Packers.

"I was in Hungary and got stopped by a guy on a bachelor party from Croatia who is a huge Packer fan. Then I was in Greece and also got recognised.

"So there's Packers fans across Europe. It's going to be fun to go over there. I'm expecting a higher percentage of Packers fans than Giants fans."

The Packers have started the season well, and went into Sunday's game with an impressive 3-1 record - which was matched by the Giants. It was the first time in history that an NFL game in London has been contested by two teams with winning records.

The NFL will continue to take games abroad this season, with the Denver Broncos playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley at the end of the month.

This season will also include the first-ever NFL game played in Germany, as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the Seattle Seahawks at the Allianz Arena, Munich.
