Green, amber and red list changes as 24 countries tipped to switch

Thursday is set to see the UK's travel lists update with industry bosses predicting 24 nations could change colour under the traffic light system.

Several countries and holiday hotspots are rumoured to be moving to the quarantine free green list from August 5.

Some countries will switch from amber to red and green to amber, with more than a dozen forecast to be moved to the green list - reports Birmingham Live.

The holiday destinations could be downgraded to allow holidaymakers to head abroad from later this month.

The boost will breathe life into hopes of a summer holiday for British holidaymakers and families across the country.

Ministers have abandoned plans for an "amber watchlist" as Boris Johnson promised to keep travel rules as simple as possible.

Germany, Portugal, Canada and Austria are just four of the holiday hotspots which could be downgraded to green for quarantine free travel for UK fully jabbed passengers.

Here are the countries expected to change colour this week.

Boris Johnson said: "I understand how much people plan, prepare, for the summer holidays.

"But we have also got to remember this is still a dangerous virus and we must try and stop variants coming in, must stop importing variants from abroad, so we have to have a balanced approach.

"What I want to see is something that is as simple and as user-friendly for people as possible."
