A highly rated Greek restaurant in Westbury-on-Trym is the latest to close its doors.
Athena opened on High Street in February 2018, replacing the former Flour & Ash site and, before that, Casamia's original home before it moved to the harbourside.
The family-run mezze bar and restaurant served a range of authentic meat, fish and vegetarian Greek dishes, with classics such as moussaka, kleftiko and tzatziki all on the menu.
At the time of opening, restaurant manager Kostas Somascinos said the family wanted to open in Bristol after a successful opening in Chippenham.
Athena also hosted Greek-themed nights with live music and entertainment once a month.
But this week it closed suddenly just two years after opening, with the news being shared via a message on its website - although it is not clear why the family has taken the decision.
The message reads: "Hello, with a heavy heart, we have made the decision to close Athena Restaurant in Bristol. We thank you for everyone who have enjoyed their time with us and appreciate your business.
"A new Italian restaurant will be opening soon.
"Best wishes, Athena Restaurant Bristol."
The restaurant had a rating of 4 / 5 on TripAdvisor from 167 reviews, with positive reviews from diners being left only last week.
Bristol Live's food critic Mark Taylor gave it a three-star rating when he visited soon after its launch, saying it 'may well become the go-to venue for locals getting into holiday mood before jetting off into the Kefalonian sun'.
It is understood Athena's Chippenham restaurant will remain open after the Bristol closure.
