Greek restaurant and takeaway in Bristol closes permanently after 33 years

A long-running restaurant and takeaway in Bristol has closed permanently.

The Kebab House, operated for more than 30 years on St Michael's Hill, over which time it built up a loyal following for its tasty, reasonably priced food.

But owners George and Flora, who launched the business together in 1987, have shut up shop for the final time so they can enjoy their retirement.

The building on St Michael's Hill is currently being gutted.

In March George and Flora posted on The Kebab House's Facebook page to thank those who have supported the business over the years.

The wrote: "This is a really scary time and it saddens us that this is how we are ending our time as The Cyprus Kebab House.

"This is not the way we wanted to see out our retirement with such doom and gloom, we wanted to go out with a bang and celebrate our happy times!

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your custom over the last 33 years, like we said before we not only had customers we made many friends."

The Kebab House had a rating of four out of five on TripAdvisor from 94 reviews, with its customers praising the "authentic" Greek cuisine and "good value food".

Fans of the restaurant have shared their sadness at the closure on social media and wished George and Flora a happy retirement.

One person wrote: "You have been part of our lives for a very long time, both Julie and I had intended to visit one last time but unfortunately this will now not be the case, our memories of our visits to the kebab house will never leave us, we both hope you have a very happy retirement."
