Greek Prime Minister Stands Firm Against Farmer Protests

Protest against European agricultural policies, in Floriana

Greece's prime minister has firmly stated that there will be no further concessions made to protesting farmers ahead of their planned rally in central Athens. The farmers, who are expressing discontent over high production costs, are set to converge on the capital with tractors in tow.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed optimism that the protest scheduled for Tuesday will bring an end to the weeks of unrest that have gripped Greek farmers. Despite rejecting the government's proposed relief measures as insufficient following a recent meeting with Mitsotakis, the farmers are determined to press on with their demonstrations.

In addition to the rally outside parliament, the farmers intend to block major roads, harbors, and border road crossings as part of their protest. Greek police have issued warnings that the rally in Athens will lead to significant traffic disruptions and impact public transport services.

While there have been sporadic blockages on secondary roads in recent weeks, the farmers have so far refrained from causing major transportation disruptions. The government's stance remains firm, with Mitsotakis emphasizing that there are no further concessions to offer to the protesting farmers.
