Brits could be able to jet off to island resorts as the Transport Secretary revealed they'd be considered separately from the mainland.
The news means that people could be allowed to travel without quarantine to the Greek Islands, Canaries or Balearics, without having to wait for cases to drop in mainland Spain or Greece.
Lots of popular holiday destinations currently remain off the Green list, with Portugal one of the only places people can travel to.
The next Green list review is set to take place on June 7, with hopes that some islands with low case rates might be included - reports Herts Live.
However, despite confirming the approach, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps warned that no decisions had been made.
The Minister told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "There’s a difference between the ‘in principle’, the way we want to make this work, and the actual data and what the Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC) are going to come forward to us with. That information I haven’t seen as yet.”
He also warned that facilities to sequence the genome to discover variants may be a problem in smaller locations, which could be an issue when giving a country the green light.
It does give hope that later this month there will be more destinations added to the green list ahead of summer.
The news comes as airline and tourism bosses have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging him to expand the green list.
In the letter to the Prime Minister, the tourism officials said: “The science shows clearly the green list can be expanded safely now, including to many European countries, the US and the Caribbean.
“A second lost summer for the sector, due to a limited expansion of the green list compared to our neighbours, would cause lasting damage to the UK’s aviation, travel and tourism industries.”
