Greedy Williams named one of top 6 candidates to win Defensive Rookie of the Year

Greedy Williams is getting some early buzz as a potential Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate.

The Browns’ first pick, taken No. 46 overall in the second round, is one of six rookie defenders listed by sister site Draft Wire as top candidates for the honor. Williams is projected to see extensive action at cornerback in Cleveland playing opposite Denzel Ward.

Aside from tackling, Williams checks just about every box for a top-tier cornerback prospect. The 6-foot-2 LSU alum has impressive hip fluidity and deep speed for a lengthier defensive back and has very good ball skills. He has the instincts to jump routes well, and he can high point jump balls as well as most receivers can.

Ward was well on his way to capturing the Defensive Rookie of the Year award last season, winning the weekly rookie honor twice in his first five games before injuries slowed his progress. Colts linebacker Darius Leonard wound up winning the honor.
