Greedy Williams gets all 1st-team reps over Terrance Mitchell at CB

The second week of Cleveland Browns camp began with a tweak on the defense. Greedy Williams was moved up to the first-team defense at CB opposite Denzel Ward. Previous starter Terrance Mitchell took all of his reps with the second team, where Williams had largely played through the first five practices.

It’s an experiment with the Browns’ top draft pick to see how close he is to handling the starting responsibility. Williams has been decent in coverage but has shown some holes in his zone awareness and anticipation on out-breaking routes.

Williams proved he can tackle with a great run fill, stuffing Nick Chubb on a 3rd down rep with a solid hit after shooting the gap to meet the RB in the hole. One of the big knocks on Williams coming out of LSU was his willingness, or lack thereof, to get physical and aggressive in the run game.

Expect to see more of Williams getting starter reps, but the battle with Mitchell is not over by any means.
