Apologies if I gave the impression that the latest New Yorker is the most sought after item in the building. The hottest piece of printed matter in Observer Towers is, in fact, a ticket to the Observer Food Monthly Awards on 10 February.
You might have thought that the Royal Academy of Arts has a lavish function room big enough to hold an entire newspaper's worth of ravenous hacks. But it seems not. Invitations are changing hands for ludicrous sums of money. The ornately calligraphed parchments are routinely snatched from inattentive hands and swiped from unguarded desks.
The awards last year were the first ever, and the event was, in the words of one seasoned Observer hack "pure decadence".
Naturally, the blog will tell all in lurid detail. As will the next edition of Food Monthly due out on Sunday 13 February.
A stern note from the marketing department is placed hurriedly onto the desk of the Observer blog.
The Observer Food Monthly Awards are, we are proud to remind you, sponsored by Waitrose.
