Greece revealed as best place in the world to go on a cruise

With turquoise seas, white sandy beaches and friendly locals, there’s a reason Greece attracts around 28 million visitors per year. While the mainland itself is stunning and oozing history, it’s the Greek islands - all 3,000 of them - that leave travellers in awe.

One of the best ways to visit these islands is on a cruise, so it's no surprise that Greece has just been named as the best cruise destination in the world by the cruise industry's Wave Awards.

Greece was named by the judges as the best country and port in the UK-based awards, which recognises excellence in the cruise industry through a mix of judge input and public vote.

With a number of new hotels opening in Greece this year and lesser-known islands to explore , there has never been a better time to visit.

Barbados took home the public’s vote award for favourite cruise destination, and the public also voted for Cunard as its favourite luxury cruise line, Viking River Cruises as its favourite river cruise line and Royal Caribbean as its favourite ocean cruise line.

Industry experts picked Marella Cruises for the best on board spa, Oceania Cruises for the best cuisine and Regent Seven Seas Cruises for the best accommodation. Yet, judges picked Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as the grand prize winner for best cruise line.

With a number of cruise lines operating in Greece, take your pick and visit the islands for yourself this summer.
