Greece boss sets out clear target for his team in Scotland's World Cup group

Greece boss Ivan Jovanovic insists only winning Scotland's World Cup group will be viewed as success for his golden generation.

Scotland open their World Cup campaign tonight in Denmark, with Greece hosting the group minnows Belarus in the other game.

Greece have produced some eye-catching wins recently, including victories at both Hampden against Scotland and Wembley against England.

And their Serbian boss Jovanovic has made it clear what their target is for the qualifying campaign.

He said: "Certainly our next goal is to win this group and qualify for the World Cup.

"It's clear we have a talented group of young players coming through, but they have to show it and to do that, they must get to the World Cup.

"It is a new challenge for us and it will certainly take a very big competitive effort to achieve it.

"We have made our plans, especially for this specific period of September, regarding the players' competitive status, regarding the level of readiness, but also because it is essentially the beginning of the season for everyone and with two games at home, we have to do everything to start the qualifiers well.

"It will take a lot of effort and concentration to get the six points required from the home games against Belarus and Denmark.

"Last year we definitely had a very large support at all our games. I believe the same will happen at both of these World Cup qualifiers.

"We are now used to playing in a full stadium. We feel their support, their willingness to help us and I hope the two games will be beautiful like the previous ones."
