'Greatness recognising greatness': St Helens get congratulations from Barcelona

Super League champions St Helens have been congratulated on the success of their men's and women's teams in 2021 by Spanish football giants Barcelona.

The Saints, who made it three successive Super League titles with victory against Catalans Dragons at Old Trafford earlier this month, took to social media on Tuesday to reveal that they had been sent a letter from the world-famous stars of the Nou Camp.

As well as Kristian Woolf's side winning the league and cup double, the Saints' women picked up a historic domestic treble, underlining the club's status as the most dominant in the British game.

The letter, signed by Barca president Joan Laporta, read: "I am writing on behalf of the club's board of directors and in my own name to express our sincerest congratulations on your men and women teams winning the 2021 Super Cup with the women team's historic treble.

"I would also appreciate it if you could pass on our congratulations to players and coaching staff and everyone who played a part in these successes."

It is high praise indeed, and an illustration of how far and wide the Saints' success has reached in 2021. Could piquing the interest of Barcelona lead to a potential showdown with the Dragons at the Nou Camp next year?

Stranger things have happened!
