It’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest and best yet, but this year’s Eaglesham Fair has just been given a seal of approval from Hollywood.
That’s thanks to Greatest Showman star, Gayle Rankin, who praised the event in an online message.
The actress played Queen Victoria in the star-studded blockbuster, sharing the screen with Hollywood A-listers like Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Zac Efron.
And she owes much of her success as on-screen royalty to the Eaglesham Fair – having been crowned Fair Princess in 2000.
Now the international film and TV star has wished those involved with this year’s 250th anniversary event all the best for their celebrations.
The former Eaglesham Primary pupil posted a message on Facebook, telling villagers: “I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck and I’m so excited to know that your theme for the Fair this year is The Greatest Showman.
“I played Queen Victoria in that movie and it was really fun to make. I’m proud of Eaglesham Gala
Day and I’m in New York working as an actor.
“Eaglesham Fair was an amazing thing for me when I was wee.
“Thank you so much to those who are still participating to make it happen, it’s such an incredible thing for the village.
“I want to wish you good luck and hope you all have a lovely time.”
Now 29, Gayle is best-known for her role as professional wrestler ‘Sheila the She Wolf’ in the Netflix smash hit, GLOW – a series about the ‘gorgeous ladies of wrestling’.
Her career in performing came through her mum’s passion for movies and music, and despite first showing preference as a singer, she soon shifted focus to acting, attending the Dance School of Scotland in her academy years.
Such was her natural talent and dedication, she soon headed to the world-renowned Juilliard School of Performing Arts in New York, where she would become the first Scottish student to graduate from its acting program.
Since then she has gone on to shine as a star of stage and screen, big and small, working alongside a number of Hollywood greats, including Dustin Hoffman.
But, she has never forgotten her roots and was humble and gracious enough to send a message of support ahead of this year’s Fair day.
The countdown for the centrepiece of this year’s event is now on, as they
the village celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Fair.
