Greater Noida: Girl (16) pregnant, 12-year-old brother booked for rape

GREATER NOIDA: A 12-year-old boy was apprehended and sent to an observation home for allegedly raping his elder sister (16), who is pregnant.

The incident was reported to the police after the girl’s employers found out about her pregnancy and informed Childline. The girl might have conceived two to three months ago. The minors are among five siblings who stay with their parents in a rented accommodation. Their mother works as a maid in a residential society and their father is a construction worker. The girl accompanied her mother to houses where they shared work.

Police said an employer noticed a bump and enquired about the girl’s health. When they probed deeper, she revealed that her brother had established sexual relations with her twice around two-three months back. Bisrakh SHO Anita Chauhan told TOI the girl and the boy were unaware of the consequences of the act. “When the employer informed Childline, police started investigating the matter and it came to light that the parents did not realise the gravity of the situation,” she said.

A police officer said the girl had confided in her mother but she did not allegedly pay attention to it. “The family thought the girl had an infection and did not realise she was pregnant,” the police officer said.

Sub inspector Usha Kushwaha, who is investigating the case, told TOI the girl was the second among the five siblings and the boy the third. “The girl has studied up to seventh while the boy is in third standard. At present, since schools are closed, the minor accused visits the construction site with his father,” she said. The boy was produced before the child welfare committee on Monday. He was sent to a juvenile shelter in Phase II on Tuesday.

An ultrasound will be carried out to ascertain the girl’s pregnancy status. She too has been sent to a shelter. An FIR has been lodged against the juvenile under IPC sections 376 (rape) and sections 5/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act at Bisrakh police station.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
