Greater Manchester weather: Warning for ice and snow as temperatures set to plummet overnight

A yellow warning for ice has been issued across Greater Manchester starting tomorrow as temperatures are set to plummet.

The mercury will dip to minus 1 but with chilly winds making it feel like minus 3 in Manchester.

In some places, temperatures could fall as low as minus 6.

The Met Office has issued a warning covering much of the UK over the coming days.

Wintry showers will move south from Scotland bringing rain and hill snow, forecasters said.

In Greater Manchester, a yellow alert for ice comes into force at 5pm on Thursday lasting until 11am on Friday.

It means icy stretches are likely to form in places leading to slippery conditions and perhaps some disruption to travel.

People are being warned to take particular care on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The forecast for Wednesday evening is dry through the evening and overnight, however largely clear skies will lead to very cold temperatures.

This will bring a risk of freezing fog and icy conditions.

The Met Office forecasts a bright but frosty start to Thursday, turning cloudy in the afternoon with possible outbreaks of light rain, sleet or snow in some places.

Maximum temperatures will hit 3 degrees.

Heading into the week, a few more outbreaks of rain, slow and sleet are expected on Friday.

Saturday is set to remain dry with things turning cloudy and milder on Sunday.
