Greater Manchester weather forecast for the rest of the week and the weekend after intense rain

You can put your brolly and cagoule away for now.

After Monday's torrential downpours and flood alerts, it's set to be a lot drier and brighter for the rest of the week.

Met Office forecasters say there's a less than a five per cent chance of rain for much of Tuesday, with temperatures set to reach 10C.

And there's also the prospect of a bit of sunshine throughout the morning and early afternoon.

Temperatures will fall to around 6C overnight, but Wednesday also looks largely dry, although there's a slight chance of showers from 2pm to 4pm.

Thursday will be bright, but chilly with clear skies forecast for much of the day and temperatures peaking at 8C.

And it looks like we're in for a dry and fairly mild weekend with temperatures reaching 13C on Saturday.

The Met Office forecast for the North West says Tuesday will be a 'quieter day' than Monday 'with more in the way of sunny spells, fewer showers, and lighter winds'.

Most of the showers will be restricted to coastal areas, the forecast says.

Tuesday night will be 'chilly with a touch of frost particularly in more sheltered locations'.

Tomorrow it's forecast to be 'cloudy with scattered showers, particularly near the coasts, mostly dry and fine inland with light winds'.

And looking ahead to the rest of the week the Met Office says it will be 'fine and dry' on Thursday and Friday

The forecast adds: "Generally rather cold by day, with the risk of overnight frost. Chilly start on Saturday before temperatures recover as cloud moves in."

On Monday flood alerts were issued for large parts of Greater Manchester as the region was battered by torrential rain.

There were reports of flooding in Salford, Oldham and Wigan, while trains services were disrupted between Bolton and Preston due to flooding on the line.
