Greater Manchester suffers its biggest daily rise in coronavirus fatalities as death toll tops 200

The coronavirus death toll in Greater Manchester topped 200 on Saturday, as the region suffered its biggest daily rise in fatalities.

At least 208 people diagnosed with Covid-19 have now died in hospitals across the region, the NHS said.

That's an increase of 43 in 24 hours, NHS England data published today showed.

In the UK, there have been a total of 4,313 coronavirus deaths in hospitals - an increase of 708.

It's also the highest national day-on-day rise since the outbreak began.

NHS England figures are published for each hospital trust.

They show more people have died at Salford Royal Hospital than at any other in Greater Manchester.

All but two trusts in the region - Stockport and The Christie - recorded an increase in deaths on Saturday.

Five more patients died at the Royal Bolton Hospital, 12 within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust; 13 within the Pennine Acute hospitals; seven at Salford; three at Tameside and Glossop and three more at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The death toll at each of our hospital trust is now as follows:

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 18.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 46.

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 42.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 51.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 15.

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 24.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 1.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 11.

Some of the larger trusts run several hospitals in Greater Manchester.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust oversees the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General, while Pennine Acute is in charge of North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield Hospital, the Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.
