Greater Manchester's latest Covid infection rates borough by borough - as record numbers are told to self isolate during 'pingdemic'

Coronavirus infection rates continue to rise across Greater Manchester, as a record number of people were 'pinged' by the NHS Covid-19 app.

More than 600,000 people across the country were told to self-isolate by the app in the week to July 14, during the so-called 'pingdemic'.

Some sections of the workforce are expected to be made exempt from isolation.

Alerts are sent when someone has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive.

People who are fully vaccinated and test negative will not have to isolate from August 16, but Jeremy Hunt MP, who chairs the Health and Social Care Committee, has called for the date to be brought forward.

In Greater Manchester, cases are continuing to rise.

In Bolton, cases were up by 52 per cent on the previous week, by 48 per cent in Wigan and by 45 per cent in Bury.

Wigan continues to have the highest infection rates in our region, with 825.8 cases per 100,000 people in the week to July 18.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on July 18, a total of 321 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 13 more than the week before, a rise of four per cent.

On Tuesday, July 20, there were 51 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is eight fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending July 18, a total of 22 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 10 fewer than the week before.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

Salford recorded 1,796 positive coronavirus cases, 346 more than in the previous seven days.

There was a 24 per cent increase, week-on-week.

In Tameside , cases has gone up by 47 per cent on the previous week.

A total of 1,576 people tested positive, 503 more than the week before.

There were 1,927 positive tests over the last week in Oldham , 397 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in the town is up by 26 per cent.

Bury saw a total of 1,159 cases in the week ending July 18, 362 more than the previous week.

That represents a rise of 45 per cent.

In Manchester , the number of cases is up by 16 per cent.

There were 3,213 positive tests across the city, 436 more than the previous seven days.

Bolton , which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1,468 positive tests, 504 more than the previous week.

There was a 52 per cent week-on-week rise.

There were 1,289 cases recorded in Trafford , 36 more than the previous week - a rise of three per cent.

In Rochdale there were 1,518 positive tests, 110 more than the previous week.

That represents an eight per cent increase.

In Wigan , there were 2,714 positive tests, 876 more than the previous week.

The week-on-week trend is up by 48 per cent.

There was a 39 per cent rise in cases in Stockport .

A total of 1,774 positive tests were recorded, 499 more than the previous week.
