Greater Manchester’s curry masters to assemble for ‘Curry Club’ event

The makers of the best Asian food in Greater Manchester are to come together for the Manchester Food and Drink Festival’s annual ‘curry club’ event. Tickets are now on sale for the bash, which will take place within the festival’s ‘hub’ at Cathedral Gardens.

The cuisines of India, Burma and Sri Lanka will all be represented on the night, with the likes of Dishoom, The Little Sri Lankan, Aunty Ji’s, Nila’s Burmese Kitchen and Lily’s among those turning up with dishes.

The MFDF curry clubs have traditionally been a sell-out, and tickets are available from the festival’s website. For £45, all food is included as well as complimentary drink on arrival. Among the dishes on offer will be ‘chaats, Gujarati specialities and incredible sides, all served street-food style’.

There will also be entertainment on the night, including live bhangra music and dancing, and dhol drummers. The festivities kick off from 7pm on September 20.

The curry club is among a wealth of events going on in and around the festival this year, now in its 25th year, including an East Asian and Southeast Asian dinner being held at Hello Oriental, also on September 20.

The hub at Cathedral Gardens will also see talks and demos from cookbook writers, the artisan food market, and a ‘festival fire pit’. Among those cooking on it will be Sao Paolo Project’s Caroline Martins, Francisco Martinez from Fazenda and Robert Owen Brown.

It kicks off on September 15, winding up on September 26. For more information, head to the MFDF website.
