Greater Manchester records one of highest daily death tolls since peak of pandemic

Fifty more people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after contracting coronavirus.

It is one of the highest numbers of deaths recorded in a single day in recent weeks.

It takes the region's hospital death toll to 2,811.

Pennine Acute, which runs Fairfield General Hospital, Bury, The Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary, recorded 21 more deaths.

Ten more deaths were recorded at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, the organisation in charge of North Manchester General, the MRI, Wythenshawe Hospital, the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Saint Mary's and Trafford, recorded nine more deaths.

Salford Royal recorded six, the Royal Bolton three and Tameside General one.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Wednesday, November 4 are:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 296
  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9
  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 547
  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6
  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 727
  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 6
  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 240
  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 266
  • Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 330
  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 16
  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 368

Nationally, a further 302 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 33,637.

Patients were aged between 13 and 100 years old, NHS England said.

All except 12 (aged 56 to 99 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from March 30 to November 3.

Every day, the NHS in England provides an update on Covid-19 related fatalities.

These are cases in which a patient has tested positive for the virus within 28 days of their death - or when Covid is mentioned on their death certificate.

The NHS England figures do not include deaths in care homes or other settings
